party's primary they last voted in is also often part of that public record so you can make an educated guess.  While he is almost certainly making it up, combining such records with other information can give you a very good idea how someone voted.  Such as if someone is a registered Democrat, did phone banking for Obama, and worked as a Democratic party poll watcher chances are they voted a straight D ticket.

    •  Although I have voted (8+ / 0-)

in every election since I was 19, including local & state ones, and haven't voted for a Republican in a loooong time; it is not unknown for me to skip an office, voting for no candidates.  So you can't always tell.

    •  There are also some precincts (0+ / 0-)

where Romney didn't get any votes, or very few. Can make a pretty educated guess on that one.

Let's face it, if these guys voted, they voted D.  What that has to do with the price of tea in China, I don't know.  (I have no idea how Rush would have gotten that information within a few hours, or why he'd even think to obtain it.)

      Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult.

    •  Not in all states (5+ / 0-)

States that have open registration, for example. There is no party designation.

Ballots make no difference because the same ballot is used by all voters.

And how one marks the ballot is secret, so no, there is no way for Rush or anyone to know, assume or extrapolate who anyone voted for. Indeed, even if they cast a ballot, it doesn't mean it was marked or that all the votes were filled in.
