This heritage report is getting tons of press.  I don't care about debunking it.  Why isn't there a Center for American Progress report representing a competing analytical claim?  Maybe the press is biased and wouldn't pick up on a progressive think tank study anyway, but it seems absurd to me that Heritage is setting the terms of this debate... on NPR, no less.

there's assloads of studies from both sides that put the Heritage study to shame.

The reason why it's getting so much press is because Norquist at Americans for Tax Reform, the AEI guys, the Cato guys -- they're all saying the Heritage study is misleading and wrong.

The progressives also have studies on the economic benefits of immigration (Economic Policy Institute  for one).

But the problem is, there's a lot of data showing that it contributes to a weaker middle class, that's why you can't really find data from, say, CEPR on the matter, because it shows that there's a negative effect on wages for everyone else and hurts the American workers...

Big business interests love immigration though, so that's why you'll see both sides supporting it.

      Deficits don't matter, jobs do.
