  •  IQ tests originally (0+ / 0-)

were born out of a need for a simple, large-scale method of targeting children with learning deficiencies, and moreover their aim was to then seek to correct for these problems.

Anyone who hasn't read Gould's The Mismeasure of Man should take the time to see the long, troubled history of the IQ test, and why although it does have its uses, or more accurately, its one use for which it was originally purposed, it is an abysmally poor tool for creating any sort of intellectual hierarchy. And yet that's all anyone seems to want to do with it.
