Decades ago I was a staffer in an operation that underwent a massive expansion and capital campaign. Great new building, designed purposefully. One major business leader and donor refused to give to the bldg. fund. Insisted on setting up an endowment for operating expenses. Smart fella, and much appreciated for it.
