  •  I have my bags packed (7+ / 0-)

I use coupons when there's a real deal at the grocery store. I have big boxes of Cheerios for $1, pasta for 49 cents,  5 cans of Campbell's chicken noodle for $2 etc. This makes a really affordable way to make a pretty good donation. I do this for the food pantry every month. Just an idea on how you can make a difference and it allows you to make a bigger donation.

Last year I thought the bags at my mailbox were stolen. I saw a car come along and someone jumped out of the backseat and took my bags. I was so pissed. I waited for the mail carrier to tell her but she told me it was a co-worker making the pick ups in her own car.  I felt kinda dumb assuming someone was trolling the roads stealing food.

    •  Yes some of the retired NALC members collect (5+ / 0-)

the donations. It depends on your area. I remember my dad sorting the stuff but some guys were called on to go out in their own cars and pick up stuff to help the carriers.

Mothers Day weekend can be a heavy mail day for USPS so sometimes the retired men and women go out and help.
