the minds of the people who vote them into office.

Right now most of those states will vote for a BD or a true R.
They are BDs because they know if the run as a Progressive, they'll never make it to Congress.

    •  Respectfully, I beg to differ (in some instances). (1+ / 0-)

In 2010, after decades with a Democratic Party US Representative in our district, Dems lost to a multimillionaire Republican state Senator, when the Representative retired.

And, guess what?  The two main Dem primary candidates were 'Republican-Lite.'

IOW, the Democratic Party doesn't even try (or didn't here) to run a true progressive candidate, much less attempt to educate folks and/or change minds.

Once you put a Blue Dog in, as with any incumbent, it is difficult 'to get rid of them,' unless they do retire or die, LOL!

Frankly, since there was not difference between the Blue Dog Dem who held this seat for over thirty years, and the current Republican officeholder, the loss was basically meaningless or inconsequential, unless 'statistics' are one's focus.

Guess we will have to 'agree, to disagree' on this one.  ;-)

          point:

IMHO, IF folks understand true progressive agendas/values, they would vote for a progressive Dem!

Conversely, how did it make an appreciable difference for my district to lose one conservative (a Dem) for another (a Republican)--again, unless raw statistics are the objective, not the actual agenda or voting record of the Dem officeholder.

This Dem Rep was to the 'right' of the current Republican Representative.

That was also true of a recent Democratic Senatorial candidate who lost to a Republican.

It was the Democratic Senatorial candidate who filmed a campaign ad from a church pew!!  Not the Republican, who ran 'to the left of' the Democrat [the Republican emphasized business interests, whereas the Democrat was a typical cultural and fiscal conservative].

Again, my reference is to a particular race, in my own district.

But, it is hard to imagine that there are not similar circumstances in other locales. ;-)
