  •  No way! That's hilarious. (6+ / 0-)

I admit, I've been warned by more than one person.

That clematis - I cut it back to the ground when I was doing some work on the house, because it was all over what I needed access to. It grew back the very next year. Some plants have a real will for life, while others can't be coaxed or bribed into even surviving.

    •  Oh, its true (3+ / 0-)

But I love our 5 clematises and I'm happy to see them return every year.

The wisteria also strangled to death a 15 foot high eucalypus planted by Ms. 2093 for the shiny leaves.

Having lived in North Cal, I didn't care for the eucalypus myself (non-native, no berries, no critter habitat, burns hot in wildfires...)

Orly, it isn't evidence just because you downloaded it from the internet.

they have populated several Eucalyptus groves as roosting and nesting sites near the beaches, (and I have never seen that before)..but the foliage is gone on the branches, and the brush below is a ghostly white.

is slowly eradicating the Eucalyptus, which were imported from Australia a century ago for lumber.  Either it was the wrong kind or the wrong climate, because the lumber split too badly for use.

Then some of them died in the occasional frosts, providing tinder for the Great Fires that decimated the Oakland hills 20 years ago.
