    no-one offered me a full ride scholarship!  That's great that she had the opportunity.

    We had six or seven oboists while I was in school (we're talking a LONG TIME ago), so the parts were pretty much always covered in whatever ensemble needed an oboe or two.  I will say that I got to play in a variety of groups because there weren't as many of us as there were clarinet players, for sure!  Matter of fact, that was why I switched to oboe from clarinet - I would have been one of fifty good to decent clarenetists, but I would get to play a lot as an oboist.  It worked!  Little did I know that I would also have to make my own damn reeds...
