    into Herbert either -- OTOH, I enjoy Heinlein when I read it in the spirit of the era it was written (still very patriarchal -- I think he tried for stronger female characters in some of his later works like Friday). And I can appreciate the Bible as well when I read it in the spirit of the era in which it was written (or orally transmitted) and recognize that much of it is from the viewpoint of people who had no knowledge of modern science or medicine while holding on to the core tenets.
