President Clinton should have restored it in 1993, but didn't; President Obama should have restored it in 2009, but didn't. Might the elections of 1994 and 2010 gone differently with the Fairness Doctrine in place? I don't know.

The public airwaves are not the private property of Clear Channel, Cumulus, or CBS; broadcasters are granted use of the airwaves as public trustees, and they should be obligated to allow equal access to all points of view, and not just the ones that make them the most money.

als here think it's an assault on the freedom of speech rights of the corporate think tanks that feed and protect the talk radio monopoly- many believe these blowhards are just entertainers who do their own material.

all dems have to do is start 'forcing' our universities to declare they are not going to renew their sports broadcasting contracts with RW radio stations and are looking for non partisan alternatives.just a few doing that would embarrass many others into following suit. i think over 30% of RW stations including the loudest, would crash or have to change format.

and if the dem party monitored the main local and national talkers and responded in the media to the lies on a regular basis it would shame the media and pollticians who routinely repeat their crap. media creations like benghazi and swiftboating attempts would never get off the ground.

and almost every progressive issue could be protested at those stations.

IMO the only reason it's as big a problem as it is is the left ignores it while it kicks their ass.

once RW radio is challenged and exposed a new FD would be a lot easier. just notice whenever any prominent politician mentions the words fairness doctrine - the right media goes bananas. "free speech!!!"

This is a list of 76 universities for Rush Limbaugh that endorse global warming denial, racism, sexism, and GOP lies by broadcasting sports on over 170 Limbaugh radio stations.

      •  The Fairness Doctrine did not limit free speech (0+ / 0-)

It wouldn't have stopped stop Rush from saying anything he liked, nor made him change his show in any way.

It did, however, compel broadcasters to offer equal time to opposing viewpoints.
