  •  The most expensive thing I've broken... (7+ / 0-)

...was probably a gorgeous Art Deco lighter/ashtray combination. It was given to me as a birthday gift from my best friend, and just after I'd unwrapped it we had fun playing with the "automatic match" feature — the lighter was a chrome stick with a wick on one end which you pulled out of its receptacle and then pushed down on a chrome button to spark.

Over and over again we practiced lighting the thing, airily waving around the little flame each time. Then the tiny wick fell off and disappeared into some dark corner of the room. Never did find the wick, though I've since learned that Ronson (the manufacturer) would craft a replacement one for a certain fee.

Thing is, the lighter turned out to be probably the most expensive thing I own. I saw one like it, though not as nice as mine, on the website for the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. My friend must have gotten quite a good deal on it.
