         Thanks for including that Molly Ivins quip about the speech probably sounding better in the original German.

         1992 is just a little more than two decades ago but it seems so long ago. It was another century, after all. Too bad Pat is still around, and even on the TV each week (on the old folks pundit show McLaughlin Group).

         I would like to believe that things are getting better and these types of messages no longer resonate with many Americans, but sometimes I think it is just a matter of finding another new scapegoat to justify authoritarian policies. Terrorists replace communists, immigrants replace (or are added to ) heathens to define an "other" to fear and repress.
