Yes, we live in a society that has been conquered by predatory corporatism. However, we cannot forget the one essential truth that Romney told -- that corporations are made up of people.

Yes, you can see linkages to folks like the Kochs, who seem to be funding much of the climate denialism and related aspects of Tea Partyism that they are using to further their ends. But, in their case, it might be that they're true-believers. At least, they seem to be.

With much of the rest of corporate America, it's more a dynamic of the irresistible momentum of corporate interest.  For some at the pinnacle, their financial gain is so immense and so tied to the corporate benefit that it's hard to tell the two apart.

For most, though -- their long-term individual interests in having a sane, civilized society, including acting to stave off the worst impacts of climate change, cannot find expression in representing the corporation for which those interests seem irrelevant. At the bottom of the economy, some may foolishly subscribe to propaganda about corporations and jobs. Higher up, where individuals actually are doing the work that is destroying our future, it's more a matter of doing the job they are paid to do.

In all that, the problem isn't a conspiracy of global oligarchs...it's corporations -- and the people who work in or for them --  following the logic of power....each doing what they're paid to do. It's the system that's broken.
