  •  This story affirms something that many of us... (4+ / 0-)

on the left have been saying for years.

The constant pull to the right by extremism has redefined the political middle, so much so that "conservatives" of just a generation ago would be labeled as "liberals" by today's Koch-fueled Teaparty culture.

That we have identified the funding sources of many of these groups (including ALEC) to a handful of corporations/1%ers is a good-news-bad-news situation. The good news is that they can potentially be challenged through time-tested mechanisms (check out the Buycott smartphone app.) The bad news is that it may already be too late to undo their damage to democracy.

Chris Hedges also wrote a book called the Death of the Liberal Class, In it He argues that  the spirit of the liberals of the past who were willing to stand up and fight for the  good of all; the suffragettes, the abolitionists    those who made it their life’s work to make to stand up for the rights of all. He say’s that there aren’t any left- I hope that is not true!- His father was a Preacher who fought  for civil rights in the 60’s .
