  •  That's a good approach (6+ / 0-)

but the fact remains that there are fundamental differences between a theocrat and a democrat. Such differences that aren't resolvable by occasional convergences of opinion on a specific issue.

I forgot to say in my earlier post that any back-and-forth requires an attitude of respect and not antagonism on my part, and I have to shut up and let the other guy speak if I expect to have him listen to what I have to say.

So even if I think someone is a buffoon and full of it, I have to check my attitude.  This usually means I have to spend more time listening than talking (have you noticed how most face-to-face political conversations usually involve two people talking over each other rather than talking to each other?)

The main point here is that the 1% want us to fight each other.  That way we will not be able or willing to deal with the way the 1% robs us blind.  Allowing the other guy to say his piece is an important part of disrupting that strategy of "you and he shoudl fight".

but if history is any guide, the 1% will always be able to count on a degree of support from a segment of the 99%. Any successful left strategy will seek to minimize such numbers but it's folly to imagine that the problem can be eliminated altogether.
