(Sorry if this is a diary hijack but Im a food issues guy so I thought I'd weigh in on the Posilac story and skip the media conspiracy theory.)

Posilac is a brand name for rBST.  rBST has been illegal in most countries since 2000.  Notable exceptions are the US, Argentina, Brazil, South Korea and Mexico.  rBST is banned 100% in the EU.  And the UN has refused to include it as a safe product for food production. (The UN has no authority to "ban" things but does publish a list of safe and approved standards to its member nations)

And while we all share a kindred-hatred for Monsanto, Posilac was sold to Eli Lily in 2008.  Monsanto no longer makes any product related to bovine hormone treatment for milk production.

oh, and last thing... in response to the uproar about rBST-milk, Kansas, Right-Wing Bastion of Crazy, tried to pass a law requiring anyone marketing an rBST-free product to print on their label a disclaimer stating that "The FDA has found no significant difference between milk produced from cows treated with rBST and those that are not." or something to that effect.  That bill was vetoed by one Ms. Kathleen Sebelius.  :)

..however, I thin Pennsylvania did manage to pass something similar a few years later.  :(

is in effect. I've seen it on various milk products - especially yogurt. It's usually on the bottom of the case, not on the actual containers people buy in the store. It's very disturbing.

We all know that corporations purchase whatever they desire in Corporatocracies. When you can purchase elections, you can purchase anything you want from corporate spies posing as government employees.

    •  That was not Kansas that did that - that was (1+ / 0-)

      The FDA.

It's a statement you will find on many food products produced here in California as well.

But please don't take my saying this as proof of state of Kansas policies being deemed sane!
