View Diary: Is OFA Serious about Climate Change or Not? (105 comments)

  •  This would be a good subject for discussion if (4+ / 0-)

DKers were rational on the subject.  The overwhelming majority of the comments above would argue that they're not.

OFA is about supporting the President's agenda.  This is clearly stated, over & over again.  It has never pretended to be otherwise.

As an OFA regular and longtime climate activist (local and national organizing since 1996...being arrested, teach-ins, Seattle, forming a national anti-corporate rule organization, Quebec, etc etc) I urge those who don't find OFA radical enough to get active in any way they can.

Trashing OFA is stupid.  It's not a drag on your activism in any way.  Its purpose is largely electoral.

Electoral politics is important - critically so in many cases, but we all know its limitations.

So rather than kvetch, please get into the street.  Nobody - certainly not OFA - is stopping you.

    •  OFa has repeatedly taken positions in direct (3+ / 0-)

      opposition to progressives.

To pretend otherwise is to presume that we are, in fact, stupid.

From where even moderate progressives, let alone radicals, stand they're not "a drag on activism", they're an opposition group.

      •  "Taking positions" isn't all that meaningful, imo. (0+ / 0-)

        Who cares?

Further, as I think back, I can't think of one of these positions that's been opposed to those of progressives.  There may be some but I didn't notice.

OFA didn't lobby against the PO, for example, or to keep Guantanamo open. They didn't oppose gay rights, in fact were instrumental in getting Scott Brown to back off.  Nobody made calls to extend Iraq or pass the chained CPI.  As I wrote above, OFA is almost totally electoral, and when it's not it's generally on big issues that most everyone supports, like the gun legislation or passing the ACA.

Can you think of an example?
