  •  I am going to go there... (0+ / 0-)

From the beginning, conspiracy theories about our government's involvment with the terrorist attack on 9/11 have been strictly off limits.  I once asked why in a diary and ended up banned for about a year.

With the constant barage of conspiracy theories being launched at President Obama (multiple weekly as of late), do you think that the complete prohibition of the discussion was politically the right thing to do?

I have never proclaimed to know what happened that day.  I merely wanted an investigation because of the numerous issues that did not seem to add up.  I thought that if President Bush has lied about the reasons we were going into Iraq, why was it so unthinkable that he was somehow involved in the one thing that opened the door for so many of his wish list items to occur.

Do you think demanding answers from government officials would have accomplished what the Republicans are trying to do now?  Make it seem to have been GWB's fault (whether it was or not) and taken away his number one political asset being that he protected us from the terrorists?  It seems that there was way more ammunition than they have against BHO and there were legitimate issues with Iraq that may have faced more well deserved scrutiny.

Currently, few people even remember that George Bush was warned about Osama Bin Ladin's determination to strike the US and few people remember the lies that took us to war with Iraq (Hell, a large portion of the country still believe that Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11.

Should we have allowed a more frank discussion about 9/11 and the potential for the United States government to have purposely ignored the threat or maybe even been complicit in the attack?
