TPM: TBILISI, Georgia (AP) — Thousands of anti-gay protesters, including Orthodox priests, occupied a central street in Georgia’s capital Friday, with some threatening to lash with stinging nettles any participant in a gay pride parade which was to take place there.
Seriously, stinging nettles? You've got a bee in your shiny red bonnet about others being too nice to gay people, and you think this is going to turn the tide back? You think this will inspire the rest of the world to search their mental attics for abandoned prejudices and join your cause?

No, you're just reminding us how mean and irrational some people can be. You're showing us how most but not all of us have outgrown trying to conflate our cultural and historical animosities with fake holiness. And you're putting an ugly face on religion at large. Ugly and more than a little silly.

Big thanks to the police who protected the peaceful demonstrators from this terrible chaos. But thanks also go to these priests and their followers for joining Governor Faubus's ranks, helping us see how ridiculous bigotry really is. For when you step in front of the news cameras and play the part of nettlesome priest, you tempt a world ready to rid itself of you.

Why is there a Confederate Flag flying in Afghanistan?
