Orangeman is right.  There was criminal activity, and people should be jailed.

But they won't be.  Nobody is even talking about jailing those who violated the law, and nobody ever will.

Because those who broke the law were Republicans, which makes it all right . . .

The fact is, you are supposed to be recognized as a 501(c)4 organization if you are engaged in "social welfare activity" (whatever that is).  You are not if you are engaged in political advocacy.  The logic of this whole thing falls apart if we realize that saying that the organizations were "right wing" (whatever that is) MEANS that they were political and should have been denied 501(c)4 status.

    Which they weren't.

The only people who broke the law were those who set up these bogus political groups, and exploited the broken system to enable them to a) avoid taxes and b) avoid being identified.

The IRS officials who are being criticized were guilty of only one thing:  doing their jobs.  Except not enough.

And now we know what that gets us . . . .

P.S.:  I'm thinking of setting up my own 501(c)4.  The purpose of this organization will be to advocate special privileges for people named David.  It will promote the idea that people named David have special needs, and the government must exempt them from all taxes, regulations, and laws.  And since, under the new rules, every organization that applies MUST be approved, I will then be able to transfer all my income into that organization (where it won't be taxed), and never have to report anything about the money or what's done with it.

    Sounds good to me . . .

(Of course it won't work for me.  I'm not a Republican.)

In Washington, whenever anyone does something wrong, everyone else gets punished.
