I'm management now, and turned in my card last year, which I was most ambivalent about, but I digress...

I've done a lot of canvassing and other outreach work, both as a volunteer and for pay, and I've field-managed these types of operations quite a bit too, I know the standards and practices for this type of work pretty well...laws vary from state to state, but the basics are the same everywhere.

This smells bad to me. The big tipoff is the lack of disclosure. The standard canvass or phone outreach script follows a simple formula: Who Who What What. Who you are, Who you're with, What you're doing, What you want.

The only possible legit reason for the vague, funky sounding disclosure (the Who Who part of the rap) is that these two young women were hired by a third party outfit doing outreach on the union's behalf, that is sometimes the case. But that doesn't really fly either, 'cause if it were, say, Grassroots Campaigns (a canvassing outfit that contracts with the DNC and other groups) or some other such, they would have to disclose that up front and early in the presentation, and the training would be very explicit about that disclosure...being deceptive about that is cause for termination.

    I smell something not-so-good here.
