  •  that depends. Are 2nd-degree sunburns a reason (5+ / 0-)

to take an SOB to court for neglecting a preschooler?? That case was about my kid and not a damn thing but. I wanted somebody who could make my ex obey the child-welfare laws involved, as I could not and he had more expensive lawyers at his beck and call than I could muster. He took a three-year-old to a 4th of July outdoor event. No shirt, no sunblock, no umbrella. I got my child home with blisters big as footballs on his shoulders, back, and chest.

    •  Not exactly 'vindictive' by definition. (2+ / 0-)

      •  ah, but you don't know my ex ... (5+ / 0-)

that was the first incident that summer. A month later he and his new bride and their boarder were all arrested, one weekend while my son was there, because the boarder was pimping runaway teens from a rehab center out of the bedroom he rented.

My son still has the teddy bear the arresting officer gave him that night -- and I wasn't notified. I read the police report in Sunday's paper, and nearly had heart failure fearing the boy'd been given to CPS (ours here, despite good people's best efforts, is a mess).

Again, the ex's lawyers prevented me from being able to stop the boy being endangered, because the pimp's "business" didn't share profits with my ex or his wife. Just, you know, the house, including bathroom and kitchen, where the drugs Mr. Room-Renting Panderer (the girls were both 15) paid his girls with were found.

But it took my ex asking his neighbor upstairs to watch my son, then leaving to chase down his wife who had a job with the carnival, next stop 200 miles away, at 2 a.m. one September Saturday night before I could get a break. She had no phone and no idea when he'd be back. She hitch-hiked 12 miles to bring the boy home.

After that the judge agreed my ex's visitation shouldn't be "unsupervised" anymore, so I took my child to his grandparents' home, and picked him up from there.
