This whole situation makes me want to vomit. If they were grown men, I'd feel the same way.

Last thing we need is another Steubenville where the criminals get off easy because of their age.

or other pending cases against them.  The one on probation will, if convicted, presumably have his probation revoked.  I assume the others will be more likely to have real sentences, too.

That having been said, they are all minors.

      •  Yeah, they're minors. (2+ / 0-)

What they did was malicious and evil though. That's really not a good reason to go easy on them, in my opinion. If that were my daughter they raped, I'd push for prison sentences on these three. I don't care what happens to them, they don't rate empathy after what they did.

and perhaps saw a path to....Power?  Success?  Fear?  Through becoming brutal members of brutal gang.  Not arguing they shouldn't be held accountable, but I think without the poverty and lack of hope, we'd see much less of this kind of criminality.

The poverty doesn't help things any. If they had been from middle class backgrounds, or any other for that matter, my feelings would remain the same.

By all means we should fight against poverty and inequality, but that doesn't change the fact that these guys maliciously raped a girl at gunpoint (I know you're already aware of that too).
