    But if it had been my daughter involved with a 17-going-on-18 guy, I'd have gone to the parents and told them in no uncertain terms, "This relationship ends and ends RIGHT NOW--they can't legally be sexually active.  If I find out they're still involved, I'm going to the police."

    Unless there was evidence it wasn't consensual, there's no reason not to talk to the parents first before going to the police.
