    Like it or not, we have many legal notions of adulthood bound to the number 18.  It's true that there are exceptions, such as driver's licenses (under) and purchase/consumption of alcohol (over), but I'm distinctly uncomfortable with picking and choosing cases in which to dip below that line.

    The word "parent" is supposed to be a VERB, people...

        Obviously, this is a state-level legislative issue, but--as I said--I'd rather see a clear, unambiguous law than some piece of feel-good "case by case" law that would inevitably be WIDE open to (mis)application by judges, juries and prosecutors..  

        I'm happy to tell completely mature, emotionally sound young people below age [X], "you have to wait," if that means maintaining a bright line that protects (to some degree) OTHER young people from injury or coercion through deterrence.

        I'll readily admit that it is a solution far from perfection, but I think it the best approach we can take.
