  •  I agree with you, almost exactly. (7+ / 0-)

I too believe as you do except that  I do not believe openly believe getting yourself arrested is going to change a thing. In fact, most people are in no position to have such an arrest on their records.

I believe strongly that we have to deliver change to D.C. and to the statehouses and not the other way around. Pot is still illegal, that is the problem. The only way to be safe is to get legislation through Congress. Otherwise we will be subject to the whims of whichever administration holds power.

I've been watching these kind of protests since I was a little kid. They come out, protest, the police pick and choose who to arrest. All these years, all these arrests, and pot is still illegal.

Lastly, I'm not big on picking and choosing which laws to follow. While I'm all for avoiding all non violent drug arrests, I'm not for ignoring the ACA or gun regulations as some are vowing to do. I believe we are best served if we are consistent about following the law.

I will support any effort to organize and turn out to vote for politicians who will end this Prohibition. 2.0.

The politicians may be bought, and the system corrupt, but it is our duty to fix these things.

We had smoke-in's here in Colorado for decades...this past April? a first....

The first step is getting MM in your is murky business after it passes but sets up a structure for growing/selling/taxing...

There is huge money in taxes waiting...and fewer crowded cells and records...

As for openly getting arrested for non-violent resistance?
That is a personal choice...not an easy one..but one I have taken over the past 40 years...and never regretted it..
but is that electing better folks working for you?

      •  You do realize pot is still illegal right? (1+ / 0-)

What is happening in Colorado will succeed or fail based on who is elected in D.C. but you seem to forget that.

Or are y'all going to seceded too?

Look, don't be fooled and don't be lazy. The law must be changed at the federal level. While I'm glad that you have a privileged position in life where an arrest doesn't fuck your life, you should realize that millions do not enjoy the same lot.

You can't change if you you don't acknowledge reality.
