    The stuff you say is true.  

    I also see it as a logical outcome that if you are "the man," you are going to be "the man they arrest."

    But, smoking marijuana in itself does not rise to the level of dangerous activity that is required to arrest people.  

    However, the laws are as they are.  Officers are not supposed to pick and choose when to apply the law.  So when the leader of the group engages in civil disobedience, of course he's gonna be the one they arrest.

    I'd suggest that anyone who is crying for him must not understand that getting arrested at this sort of event is pretty much the best thing that can happen to a high profile figure.  Especially, when that figure is an activist, and the public opinion on marijuana is what it is.

      Many activists are able to use such an arrest to generate more support for their cause, which factors into their decision to take the risk. Without the arrest, would a handful of guys smoking pot in a park one afternoon do anything to further their goal of making personal use of marijuana legal? Probably not.
