  •  Not a sushi fan (10+ / 0-)

I grew up in Louisiana, and so I ate a lot of fish as a kid.  One of the first things my parents and grandparents taught me was that if fish tastes fishy, that means it's old and has started to spoil.  I obviously internalized that lesson, because I can't eat anything that has a strong fishy taste.  Which means that caviar and fish roe are nonstarters for me.  The same is true for the seaweed that is used to wrap sushi rolls.

I can eat some some sashimi, since when it's done properly, it's extremely fresh and has a very delicate flavor.  If I end up at a Japanese restaurant, that's one of the things I'll occasionally opt for.

For the most part, though, I avoid eating all raw fish.  I just don't think it's a good idea for someone with a compromised immune system.
