    what a strange and beautiful place, my bucket list to canoe that and the Owens River..which when I visited a few years ago was running strong near Bishop.
      The Late Huell Howser did a story on that stretch and its restoration, as well as Mono Lake.

    I spooked something that looked like some version of a Cormorant..I looked around the bend and wham! off it went  from 60' away, very spooked..whereas here on the pier they walk across my feet...I have noooo clue! Actually, my sense of scale was so thoroughly trampled by several Sierra days it could have been a Godwit.

    This machine kills Fascists.

      I think of them as strictly shore birds. And yes, very common and rather bold. But I just checked, and their range covers most of North America if you include migration territory, so maybe.
