am happy to say that I can finally add Yellow breasted chats to my yard bird list. I've been hearing them other places for the past couple of weeks but hadn't heard or seen on from the yard this year until this morning. He was some distance away, over on the neighbors property, and I wasn't able to see it, but close enough to hear that it was clearly a chat. I counted five distinct phrases which is about average for them here, some having a few more than that. I hope this one stays and if I'm really lucky maybe it will move a bit closer. The timing is great since I just yesterday ordered a pocket recorder.

recorder works. Especially at a distance. That's the problem my camera has, picking up near sounds that drown out what I'm looking at further away. I was disappointed I couldn't hear the courting Red Breasted Mergansers that time when they were displaying, with the nearby gulls drowning them out.

understand, you can narrow the focus of it down to get past some of the unwanted sounds coming from the sides. I don't have any idea how well it really works but will definitely put it to the test and share the results, good or bad. Got a notice that it has already been shipped but the same notice also said that the expected delivery date isn't until the 29th.  ?

on things like that, what towns it goes through to get to you. And when it's actually in transit, compared to sitting somewhere. I've been surprised sometimes to see it moving in the middle of the night. Trucks on the freeway. I'm thinking about that right now, as a major interstate bridge just fell into a nearby river tonight. Traffic will be a nightmare for months. Luckily no one was hurt when it went down.
