  •  is he gay himself? (7+ / 0-)

whenever i see these things I always wonder if he felt tortured because he could not accept himself

Politics is like driving. To go backward put it in R. To go forward put it in D.

    •  There's always a possibility...however (6+ / 0-)

I would not presume, as some do, that the biggest homophobes HAVE TO BE closet cases. Yes some are, but the majority, I suspect, are those who need someone to hate and who have a particular attraction to the sort of black-and-white, "you're either a saint or you're evil" mindset.

In this case most especially I'd separate Venner's views from his action. It is profoundly irrational to violate church teaching in order to make some sort of statement. What was it he was expecting to accomplish?

    •  One study... (3+ / 0-)

Found that around 80% of people who hated gays (I'm not sure what they defined as "hate gays") were sexually attracted to members of the same sex, and that those people grew up in oppressive anti-gay, anti-diversity homes.
So i think that these people who are extremely against equal rights are against them not because they hate gays but because they cannot cope with the fact that their life long suffering was for nothing.

We only think nothing goes without saying.
