    The slave-holding colonies wanted to push up their representation by counting slaves, but they certainly didn't want the slaves to have the vote! The northern colonies had larger voting populations and would get more representatives otherwise.

    3/5 of a person only counted toward the census and apportionment; it had nothing to do with individual rights. Obviously, because if the southern colonies had cared about the rights of slaves, they would have...I don't know...abolished slavery!

    These people will say anything.
