    but rejecting the amendment doesn't actually make any gay people here in America any worse off, and it doesn't make DOMA repeal any more or less likely. That's what would constitute a sell-out, in my opinion, a reversion, not an upholding of (an unjust) status quo.

    The right's strategy (with the exception of the extremists) is clearly to pay lip service to the bill while trying to pass "poison pill" amendments, and while well-intentioned, Leahy was playing into that strategy.

    Did Obamacare sell out women?  Certain amendments, perhaps, but the bigger picture was that women would be the greatest beneficiaries of the removal of lifetime caps and preexisting condition limitations; and the same forces that make immigration reform a reality will doom DOMA.  And of course, all of these bills are always part of a work-in-progress.

    Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult.
