I suppose there's a case to be made by looking at the LGBT aspects of this bill in terms of an eventual DOMA repeal. It could be argued that this isn't much of a sellout.

But the fact is that it's a sellout no matter how you try to rationalize this mess.

The other case that's been floated around is the idea that you have to start somewhere and that this bill is better than nothing.

    That's total bullshit as well.

It makes things worse overall. The H1B provisions would be better if the same concept applied to US citizen workers, but we all know that it doesn't. H1B workers are captive employees and tax avoidance strategies for businesses. And that's only a couple of bad things.

So waht if Bill Antitrust Gates can't find good programmers. He can afford to train every damn one. That's what IBM and rhe other pioneering companies did. They hired the best and the brightest, they funded research, and trained qualified and talented new hires.

Training always pays for itself and much, much more. It's a profitable investment.

Hiring H1B's is a crap shoot. They need at least a Masters degree. The demand is so great that most have PhD's Many of the ones I've worked with have their corequisite requirement of having their heads up their ass.

But they aren't going to quit and go to better pastures. And Bill Antitrust Gates can abuse them. Benefits, schmenifits.

Then there's the problem of the length of time to be eligible to apply for citizenship. And stricter English requirements. And having to jump through hoops to be eligible to vote. This is stupidity on steroids. Immigration MADE this country great.

As important as LGBT provisions are, there are far more people affected by the other bad provisions.

It would be far better to let the wingers fuck up this bill all by themselves.

    It's worse than nothing.

More and better Democrats that can win a House and Senate super-majority is the answer.

(in short, I agree with your sentiments)
