    just sleazy sales tactics. You can't get a guy to buy based on emotion unless you separate him from his wife first. Two people making a joint decision are ten times harder to snow than one person. And I don't think the husband has to be sexist to fall for this. Sales people are very good at pushing our buttons.

    I highly recommend this book:

    Influence: Science and Practice, by Robert Cialdini

    It's a very interesting read, and I've found it much easier to immediately recognize the tactics people use to try to influence me after reading it. I wish I'd read it in high school instead of when I was in my 50s.
