  •  In the UK, the gov't makes you pay for tide tables (1+ / 0-)

Only some coastal areas are available free online, and only for a few days in advance.  And tides can be really high there.  I was made curious by the setting of the TV show 'Doc Martin' on the coast of Wales.  Tidal excursions of over 7M are the norm there.  That's a lot.

Real plastic here; none of that new synthetic stuff made from chicken feathers. By the morning of 9/12/2001 the people of NYC had won the War on Terror.

    •  That's wild; (0+ / 0-)

do you have to pay to see the data in any form, or just pay if you want a printed tide table booklet?

    •  There are free tide tables apparently (0+ / 0-)

but the official (and supposedly most accurate) ones from the Admiralty you must pay for.

With tides of 20-30 feet in many places, and high/low tide times varying along the coast, I wouldn't want to settle for some iPhone app were I sailing there.
