some of the diarists own thoughts, are quite different than what my thoughts were on first reading the title of the diary.

To me the title was a simple statement in truth.

Over the years, I've picked up many arrowheads here on my own little piece of property and whenever I hold one in my hand I can't help but think about the person that made it and the people that once lived here on this place that I now call my own .

I don't know the history of this area, I should probably investigate it but I'm relatively sure that if I did so I'd find that the land was either stolen outright from the original owners or taken in some crooked deal, or worse. But whatever or however this land was lost to those original residents, I can't turn back the clock, I can't make all the past wrongs into rights. And going around feeling shame for things that happened long before I was born, which is something I dealt with for a time, benefits no one and serves no purpose other than to depress the hell of me. So thankfully I got past that and although I still think about it, I no longer suffer the pangs of guilt about it that I once did. It just made no sense to go there, so I stopped doing so.

What does make sense to me is that I love this rocky ridgetop that I live on and all the natural wonders that abound here. I treat the land and the wild creatures that share it with me as well as I can. I know that all of them have a history here that goes back far beyond my own. I know that they have as much or more right to this land than I do. I think of them not as pests , nor even as guests, but as the rightful owners of this place. I try to act accordingly, but I admit that sometimes I fail.

I don't know as much about the first people that lived here as I should, but I like to believe that they would approve.

Just give me some truth. John Lennon
