  •  Ugh. That's terrible. (8+ / 0-)

I know what it feels like not to be able to breathe... I suffered through a bout of pleurisy back in college. It was utterly miserable. I simply cannot imagine having to live with that on a day-to-day basis.

Our health care system is a nightmare. I dream of the day when we can trade in Healthy San Francisco for Healthy California, or, dare I say it, even Healthy United States.

Funny thing: a lot of people in SF who don't have health insurance don't even sign up for Healthy SF until something catastrophic happens. Why? Because they figure it sounds 'too good to be true', and is probably just another crappy program that might give you a few discounts here and there but you'll still end up paying for most things yourself. We've trained people so well to distrust government programs that even when we make a good one, people don't realize it.

Fortunately, when something catastrophic does happen, it's there, and at least somewhat retroactive.

Because I can do a bit, then sit for a half hour, then do a bit more. Can you imagine an employer allowing that kind of work schedule? I would love to be able to work in OT, it's what I've wanted to do for decades, it just took me that long to find a good program that I could get to (most of that we lived out in the sticks, moving into the city I finally found one). Now I've got the student loan debt, no job, not allowed to find a job (I get offers all the time), and we live well below the poverty line while waiting for my disability to progress. Right now I don't have insurance either because my other half's disability is too much for me to qualify (though my kids do). I wish we lived in Cali, I'd snap up that health care offered in a heart beat.

Reams of forms that have all kinds of threats of prosecution if they don't do it right.

Those threats stop a lot of people from getting help when they really need it, just as the Republicans planned it to do.
