    strong perception of this great, unstoppable juggernaut rolling down on us/them that they can't do anything about, and can't run away from. They have too much evidence, and not enough hope to counter it.

    In really strong imminent danger, you can run away, you can try to fix it, you can hope it will miss you if you don't move, or you can hope for a miracle. Or 'when in danger, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout'. And oh, yes, there's denial.

    So, two separate problems here. First, the real problem of climate change, which needs to be addressed in as many ways as possible. Second, the people who are gaming the negative reactions in order to make short term profit. To whatever extent it's possible, I think we have to ignore the second one if we're going to fix the first. Push clean energy until it outperforms high emission alternatives, rather than wasting time and effort shouting at Exxon Mobil and their ilk.

    At least half the future I've been expecting hasn't gotten here yet. Sigh.... (Yes, there's gender bias in my name; no, I wasn't thinking about it when I signed up. My apologies.)
