  •  Agreed. Big Money uses this technique (23+ / 0-)

On the pipeline and everything else.

One of the reasons we have leaders in the Executive and Legislative branches is to make fact-based decisions on difficult questions and stand up for them.

There is no rationale for a cave-in on KXL.

Stop with the gloom because not enough people are buying it.Instead, we emphasize our approach in terms of jobs, security and quality of life.

Blaming entrenched interests is a luxury we cannot afford. The public is going to go with whoever can address their immediate concerns and we best learn to play on this field.

Why this is so upsetting to people who claim to want to save the planet I do not understand. Adapt, survive, excel, and then win. That is all I'm saying.

The politicians may be bought, and the system corrupt, but it is our duty to fix these things.

      •  In general, yes, I agree. (4+ / 0-)

As long as we stipulate that who the public goes with is not a reason to make a bad decision on KXL, and that the people who have been working like hell are not "failures".

It's not over, and as I said below, I think the President is strong enough to make a decision contrary to the polls.

        •  Who the public goes with is everything! (0+ / 0-)

I'm not here to justify forcing anything on people. We absolutely must be who the public sides with. Expecting President Obama, or any politician to go against the majority of the public including the majority of his own party is an expectation I do not believe we are entitled to as much as I would love to see it.

I believe there will be other monstrosities such as Keystone and I do not want to lose those battles because we did not want to undertake self-examination and fell for blaming it all on some politician.

The politicians may be bought, and the system corrupt, but it is our duty to fix these things.

So doing the right thing and making the right choices is a safe strategy.  The public isn't going to get up in arms over it if POTUS explains his position and give the public the facts.

We can't keep caving in to bad ideas just because the opposition spends some money on advertising.  If we keep that up, our country will fall apart.

Had no problem continuing the war in Iraq, escalating the war in Afghanistan and taking the public option off the table, to name three examples.

Obama is the Chickenshit-in-Chief for failing to stand up to Republicans on all their phony scandals, from the "beer summit," to Van Jones, "death panels," Shirley Sherrod, contraception, Benghazi, and the IRS.

I could add to the list, but don't want to hijack this diary.
