  •  New and improved veggie jail this year! (10+ / 0-)

Our old one was still ok, I needed to just put new plastic chicken wire on it, but then a big branch fell on it from the tree we trimmed, and it was smashed!

So I told Mr. Light - what about pvc? He is a plumbing contractor and knows just what to do. So he built it and I used zip ties to put bird netting around it and here it is!

It's even lighter weight to lift off and on.  Lots of volunteers this year, in the raised bed from carrots, lettuce, and onions.  It looks like I might actually get squash and cucumbers this year too.  Last year was much worse than this year, last year was too hot!  I have noticed  lots of trees and bushes have suffered like Frankie's - some haven't leafed in, some died outright, like our nice aspen tree. Oh well.  I have more trees from the Arbor Day people. Don't tell Mr Light they're crabapples, but they're Sargent crabapple so they'll hold onto the fruit.  I think he's going to like them once they get big.

    •  I just noticed the "critter" at the base of the (7+ / 0-)

raised bed -looks like a dead chipmunk with its legs up in the air.  I had to laugh - it's labradog's "chipmunk" stuffed toy, which shows up in odd places.  Real chipmunk is actually quite busy stashing sunflower seeds in my pots, but not eating the vegetable sprouts I have in them (yet).

        tooo funny!!!

I mean about the stuffed chippie, not the real one... who is planting sunflower seeds.  ;-)  although that's pretty funny, too.

The squirrels in my yard have been planting peanuts!
