      ... the notion of bamboo and fishing wire as a "temporary" solution myself.  With copper pipe, i figured i could just bang one of those long metal bars used to set concrete really deep into the ground, and then slip the pipe on top.  It seems to me that would be very secure, even for a flat trellis.  Bamboo, being a pipe of sorts, would allow me to do that same thing.  So i might try that.

      We shall see!

      I'd love to see photographs of what you end up making.  Just remember that imitation is the highest form of flattery ... :)

        Two pieces of bamboo each side, two lashed at top.  Fencing at the base between the two pieces.  So it's square at top.

        Opening just enough to walk through, like 30 inches. Depth narrow, like no more than a foot. I might think of shorter bamboo between solely as decorative, the fencing being what supports the vine.

        I don't want anything to block the view into the garden and so you can still see the pond.

         That's it!
