as the result of one out of control police officer who still didn't intend to kill anybody.

I don't mean to downplay what happened to him.  It was horrible and somebody should have gone to jail for it.

I've been following what's been going on in Turkey off and on all day though and it's really not the same thing.

    •  You claimed one dead woman with a hole in her (6+ / 0-)

      head.

My point is it was sheer luck that it wasn't one dead man with a hole in his head.

And the officer may well have intended to kill Scott. He shot a bean bag round from a rifle.  It wasn't like some lob shot.  Maybe he was an incredibly bad marksman and was aiming for Scott's side or chest.  Or maybe he was aiming for his head.  (It hit him on the top of his head, not his jaw.)

And there were multiple "out of control" officers who beat up Kevan Sabeghi.

Go check out the video some time.

Do you have a minimum quota on the number of civilian deaths before you consider the federal government to have a problem violating human rights?  If so please share.

    •  NO. The principle is exactly the same. (10+ / 0-)

The principle is the right of people to peaceably assemble. The right to free speech.

Whether the crackdown is more severe in one place than another is not relevant to the issue of whether a government that illegally cracks down on its own protesters has any business condemning another government for cracking down on ITS protesters.

The U.S. Government didn't say it's OK for Turkey to crack down on peaceful protesters , but it should only use teargas and batons (and fire the occasional gas canister at a protester's head at close range). If it had said THAT, we couldn't claim it was being hypocritical.

Obama is the Chickenshit-in-Chief for failing to stand up to Republicans on all their phony scandals, from the "beer summit," to Van Jones, "death panels," Shirley Sherrod, contraception, Benghazi, and the IRS.
