healthiest way to lose weight is a simple start: don't eat anything white. Brown rice, not white. Or quinoa, couscous, wild rice. Whole-grain or Barilla "white fiber" pasta. Mustard instead of mayo. Lettuce wraps instead of tortillas. Sweet potatoes, not white. Grill or roast them. add cinnamon if desired, or Mrs. Dash Southwest. Multi-grain bread, never white.

Add veggies to whatever you can. TJ Maxx, Ross, etc, usually have olive oil misters for about $3. Cut up peppers, zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli, sweet potatoes, beets, whatever, spray with olive oil, sprinkle with pepper or Mrs. Dash, roast until browned. Toss with lettuce or arugula, add balsamic vinaigrette, and reduced-fat feta or blue cheese.

Veggies can also be added to tomato sauce in huge quantities. You can purée them if you don't like chunky sauces.

Cook with olive oil or canola oil. Try to avoid processed food as much as possible. The fewer ingredients, the better. "Fat-free" is generally crap. Avoid it. Check sugars on ingredients, always.

Eat 1/4 cup of nuts each day. That's GOOD fat.

Added benefit: eating this way actually DOES keep you healthy. I'm knocking wood, but we almost never get sick. Not even colds.

I could go on and on, but I have to walk Max. If you have any questions, ask!!

    •  Absolutely right. I don't eat that bad, my real (4+ / 0-)

problem is I don't move enough.  I don't like the health club, and it's hard to motivate myself on my own to move.  The funny thing is I'm married to a guy who loves to exercise.

I've started taking the dogs for a mile walk, but we've had a lot of rain, so it's been iffy.  I think I'm going to look for some dance channels and see what I can do without hurting myself.

      Thanks BK.

I am a work in progress. Still.

      •  I hate the health club, too. I'm surrounded (4+ / 0-)

By women with yoga butt :( but my upper body strength is not what it used to be. I don't want dingle-dangle arms. Don't have them, but I will if I don't exercise more frequently. Ugh.

DH is an exercise FIEND and he's surrounded by women with yoga butt, too :(

Dancing is GREAT!! And it doesn't FEEL like exercise! Good luck, broths!! Shake your booty like a 9-year-old! =)

Just got back from the walk. Have no idea how far I went.

We have a Wii fit board and game, Just Dance, Wii Resort, Clone wars (fighting with lightsabers and you have to actually do the moves with the wii-mote). I chose to get the kids a wii because it is a more active game system. They have very few 'sit and push the buttons' games. Most of their games are active (I have a Wii golf game for myself too, also active, but more easy activity that my lungs will handle. My shoulder doesn't like it much lately though).
