I can't run outside and inhale deep lungfuls of smoke to calm down any more.
...maybe not run outside to smoke, but nothing's stopping you from running outside to inhale deep lungfuls of AIR to calm down, is there? Funny, as smokers we assume we have tacit permission to check out of a situation and go smoke to calm ourselves, but we feel weird walking away to go take a deep breath to do the same thing. But the mechanism is similar and the results are too.

Give yourself time to let your metabolism re-adjust to the lack of nicotine; it may take a little while but if you continue to exercise (maybe step it up in the short-term to boost things along?) it should even out and you will be back to your old self. Be careful of hanging so much on 5 lbs one way or the other; I assure you, that's TINY, and a reasonable temporary trade-off for better health.  Most people won't notice. The side effects of Phentermine are significant enough that it is typically prescribed only for very short-term use and for people with much bigger weight issues than a few temporary extra pounds. It's not a good long-term fix for a shift in metabolism; it just punts it down the road. Instead, look at small changes in diet and a higher-energy workout as lower-impact, more sustainable changes.
