  •  I just posted this on that newspaper's FB page: (5+ / 0-)

"Sir:  I was distressed to learn that you recently provided a forum for a vile calumny against the good citizens of North Carolina who have been exercising their Constitutional right to publicly assemble in search of redress for their grievances.  I would have thought better of you, but apparently your standards have sunk pretty low.
Please discontinue my subscription from this date (you can keep the balance, I feel you might need it in the near future.).
    Respectfully, Steve in Franklin, N.C."

Two footnotes:  no, I do not have a subscription, but I do hope he goes digging through his files looking for me,
and no, I do not live in Franklin, N.C. -- but my mother did, for many years, and even she (loyal supporter of Jesse Helms) couldn't put up with that kind of stupid.
We'll see what, if anything, happens...

It's really about time i change my sig line...

to be looking very hard. Also, Pittsboro has had a Dem voter majority since the 70's. Chatham County voted against Amendment One. I appreciate the larger points of this post, but the "redneck" cheap shots are unhelpful and classist.

      •  Samantha, I like and appreciate the (0+ / 0-)

area. I lived in Orange County for years and years, and know a lot of people in Chatham County. It's pretty rural, and I was admittedly pretty snarky about the cows and the JD bottles. But the way I look at it, I'm from the general area and a NC native, so I can throw bricks with a bit more impunity -- these are my people McCrory and Goolsby are pissing all over. As for the classist bit, let's not throw that one if you don't mind. My family comes from a line of tobacco farmers, and they could have shot "Deliverance" at my family reunion. It's doubtful that you'll meet anyone LESS "classist" than me. (Unless you bring up music, in which case I can get well and truly elitist, to my everlasting shame.)
