The point isn't that they are one in the same.  The point here is that the right is attempting to make it seem as if this is a witch hunt for conservatives.

The right wants us to think that conservatives were targeted for retribution.

HOwever, the story is simpler.  THe story is about a brand name (The Tea Party) that is near death.

Issa didn't want to talk about it a year ago when he had the information, because it would have made the elections about the Tea Party.

I agree that the Tea Partiers are just Republicans.

This story is about The Tea Party Industrial Complex.

      are getting at.

I finally remembered, it's Mark McKinnon and "No Labels".

No Labels is a Republican front group.

      Tea Party=Republicans=Conservative=Catfood Commission=Fix the Debt

They're all hacks and corporo whores.

However, the fact that the individuals in the groups may be conservative is completely separate from what the search was about.

The search was about the "Tea Party." The key words were not "conservative."

I don't see that as a subtle distinction.  The right wing wants you to believe that it was a hunt for conservative groups.  It was a specific search for tea party groups for tax reasons.

If they are allowed to replace the term "Tea Party" with "conservative" or "republican," then it will look as if the IRS was on a political witch hunt.  That's what they want you to think.

One has to assume it was either alphabetical or some sort of organizing strategy to effect more productive output as far as work by this particular office. I doubt any group was targeted, it was just an efficient way to go about it. I mean you have to start somewhere.

Think about it. The Society for the Preservation of Large Turnips could go into the "maybe later" pile.

      Ha! I love that!

You do make a great point here.  It seemed when the groups started a lot of Republicans pointed out they weren't Republican groups.  Then, when this scandal broke, they were leaping at the chance to lump the two together.  Funny how that worked for them.
