  •  Lerner had EVERY reason (14+ / 0-)

    to take the 5th.

The Speaker of the House is calling for jail time.

By the time Lerner was called in, much of this timeline was already known. Issa wanted a scalp.

If you're caught in a political fight between the D's and the R's, keep your mouth tightly sealed, or one or the other will destroy you.

Lerner did exactly the right thing, in my opinion.

As for this guy "trying to cover"...no way. He would be committing a felony, and for what? He's not in trouble no matter what happened in the office of anything more than losing his job. Lying here gets him jail time.

before Issa's committee, the DOJ had already announced they were opening a CRIMINAL investigation.  Taking the fifth was her only recourse.  I dare say you would have done the same if you had been advised by your attorney to do so and if it were the only way to keep yourself from being squeezed in the vice between Issa's witch hunt and the DOJ.

    •  People do stupid things for weird reasons all the (0+ / 0-)

time when it comes to criminal investigations. Regardless, I've never thought that this was an administration scandal. This has looked throughout like the work of a person who is very subordinate in the scope of things. The thought that a sitting President would target people from the other party and not expect political repercussions is laughable.
