    My granddaughter is working on bird telemetry just across the state from you at Suttons Bay. I said, is it beautiful there? and she said yes. Not enough detail for me, so I appreciate your monochromatic green and the kinds of vegetation, too. Don't stop.

    Sunny here today, but the inland heat wave seems to have subsided, so it is nice and normal, in the high 50s here by Humboldt Bay in the marvelous redwoods. Speaking of the redwoods, I learned, to my surprise the other day, from a KQED (SF PBS channel) production that Frederick Law Olmstead wrote a treatise (never published) on saving Yosemite and also the redwoods, and years later, his son took up the cause. I had heard of John Muir, of course, but I never knew the architect of Central Park had been involved. At age 78, I still learn something new every day.

    No fledglings sighted here today.
