    I don't see it as pessimistic. Actually it strikes me as hopeful. The only thing I would change is to substitute naïveté for idealism. Perhaps naive idealism is the term I'm looking for.

    Your social worker scenario coud work just as well in my field, education. The fallacy that many operate under is that there a magic elexir that will work with all kids in all circumstances. Despite all the nonsense coming from the Arne Duncan's of this world, that's simply not true. This creates a false promise that can never be fulfilled and leads to frustration and burn out among teachers, parents and students.

    I'm quite good at what I do, but I don't always win. But I still have my idealism and I know that I have made a difference in the life of many kids. It's been a very good journey.
